September 25, 2023 — The Commonwealth Ports Authority (CPA) has successfully completed its Tinian Airport Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Building Renovations project, which was made possible through funding from the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP). This significant milestone was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, September 8, 2023, underscoring the importance of enhancing safety and operational capabilities at the Francisco Manglona Borja/Tinian International Airport (TNI).

The ARFF Building Renovations project represents a major transformation of the ARFF station at TNI. The scope of this project was extensive, involving the construction of a modern 3-story building dedicated to ARFF personnel and their operations.

Among the key highlights of this renovated facility are a dedicate d backup water tank to ensure a reliable water supply for firefighting operations, a state-of-the-art fire protection system to bolster safety measures, a fully equipped gym to support the well-being and fitness of ARFF personnel, and an elevator to enhance accessibility within the building. The facility also includes 3.5 lavatories, a modern kitchen, and living quarters.

Other features include a fire pole, a conference room, office spaces, upgraded bay doors, and an expanded Bay 3 to accommodate additional ARFF vehicles and equipment. Additionally, an ancillary building has been constructed, housing a self-contained breathing apparatus room, storage facilities, a wash-down area, and a mechanical room.

The successful completion of this project was the result of collaborative efforts from several key partners. The A&E Designer for this project was Pacific Engineering Group & Services; the Construction Manager was Hofschneider Engineering Corporation; and the Construction Contractor was Hong Ye Construction.

“The Commonwealth Ports Authority extends its heartfelt appreciation to its partners and the FAA for making this project a reality,” said CPA Executive Director Christopher S. Tenorio. “These renovations will not only elevate the capabilities of our dedicated ARFF personnel, but they will also significantly contribute to the overall safety and security of the airport.”

The total cost of the ARFF Building Renovations project amounted to $4.5 Million.
