About the Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA)
The NWSA is a marine cargo operating partnership between the Port of Seattle and the Port of Tacoma.  It is a major center for containerized, bulk, breakbulk, project/heavy lift cargoes, automobiles, and trucks.  The NWSA connects to the second largest concentration of distribution centers on the West Coast.

About the Chief Commercial Officer Role
The Chief Operations Officer will be responsible for providing management and oversight for marine operations (including rail, roads, terminals, breakbulk operations, and management of the waterway) and maintenance department. This position will partner with key stakeholders, including labor leaders across the various operational sectors to deliver cost competitive and efficient operational solutions through utilizing a proactive, collaborative, and innovative approach. The incumbent will effectively lead a team focused on providing exceptional service to Alliance customers.

Primary Functions

  • Provides leadership and strategic direction to the Operations group and the Maintenance Department. Directs the establishment and execution of key initiatives, objectives, priorities, and programs that provide exceptional service to the Alliance customers and provides operational solutions that foster growth, efficiency, and strong financial return. Makes timely and sound decisions to address issues and opportunities.
  • As part of the Executive Team, provides leadership in short- and long-term strategic planning and decision making that ensures the financial stability and growth of the Alliance.
  • Develops and maintains collegial relationships with customers both internally and externally. Represents the Alliance before appropriate customers, terminal operators, labor, community organizations, etc. and serves on ad hoc Alliance and industry committees.
  • Builds and leads high performing teams. Provides leadership and support to department directors and facilitates cross-departmental collaboration to accomplish the overall goals and objectives for the organization.
  • Takes responsibility for leading, directing and managing change that support the Port’s overall goals and objectives.
  • Manages human, financial and information resources strategically.

Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, transportation, or a related field is required. MBA is preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ progressively responsible experience in ocean carrier, port, terminal operations, or other related (maritime) industry is required. A strong background in a commercial (customer-facing, business development) capacity is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience managing and supervising a department, work unit or team is required, with experience at the senior management level (Director and above).
  • Experience and/or certifications in labor relations and contract negotiations preferred.

Chief Executive Officer – Port of Corpus Christi

Situated along the South Texas Gulf Coast, The Port of Corpus Christi is the premiere gateway for U.S.-produced energy exports. The Port has seen exponential growth over the past decade, becoming the largest export gateway in the U.S. for crude oil and No. 2 in liquefied natural gas shipments. It is also the leading port in the nation in total annual revenue tonnage, as well as the third largest in total waterborne tonnage. Over the past several years, the Port of Corpus Christi has regularly set and surpassed tonnage and revenue records on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

The Port of Corpus Christi is strategically positioned for commerce, providing quick access to the Gulf of Mexico and the entire U.S. inland waterway system, delivering unmatched access to overland transportation, as well as direct vessel-to-rail discharge capabilities with access to three Class I railroads (BNSF, KCS and UP). The Port also owns a short line operated by Watco, the Texas Coastal Bend Railroad.

SUMMARY

Port Corpus Christi Authority (PCCA) is currently seeking a seasoned executive leader to guide the organization under the direction of a seven-member Board of Commissioners. This position acts as the Chief Executive Officer covering a broad range of functions including but not limited to: P&L oversight, business development, governmental initiatives and relations, and the development of its international and national image and relationships with business and community.

The CEO leads a team of 270+ personnel including a seasoned executive level staff. Essential functions also include: Appointing and managing executive staff, providing timely and relevant information for decision-making, delegating appropriately to staff using discretion in a sensitive and professional manner and providing performance guidance, maintaining good employee relations and succession planning, leading all strategic initiatives including oversight and continued development of the Port’s strategic plan and accountability for all current and future infrastructure development projects.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate for this position will have natural leadership skills and a demonstrated track record of unquestioned integrity and ethics. They should be an organized, thorough, energetic, highly engaged, and disciplined individual with a focus on maintaining optimal integrity in support of PCCA.

Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without restrictions.  

EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Public Administration, or related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND JOB KNOWLEDGE

  • At least 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in the maritime transportation or logistics industry or proven executive level experience in a related field or industry.
  • Proven leadership and direct, large scale management experience in the maritime industry or a large public sector enterprise, preferably a similar sized seaport.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the energy sector are strongly preferred.
  • Experience with projects related to permitting, grants, dredging, regulatory issues and ideally public/private partnerships preferred.
  • Proven experience as a visionary thinker with the ability to translate high level goals into achievable objectives and action plans.
  • Excellent and proven political acumen and demonstrated involvement with local, State, and elected officials on matters relevant to the maritime industry.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal and presentation skills.
