November 21, 2022 — Organized by the Port of Nanaimo and the Nanaimo WorkBC Centre, and hosted by the Western Canada Marine Response Centre (WCMRC), the 4th Annual Port Connect will bring together key companies and associations from the Marine Sector in the Central Vancouver Island Region for an opportunity to meet professionals actively pursuing and considering a career in our growing industry.

Ian Marr, President & CEO – Nanaimo Port Authority, comments, “The Port of Nanaimo is very pleased to renew this successful in-person annual event with our key stakeholders at WCMRC’s new facility. Port Connect provides an opportunity to meet candidates interested in marine-based industries for continual resource development and recruitment. The Port of Nanaimo appreciates the commitment from our marine-based stakeholders and partners.”

Katy Singleton, Community Engagement Manager, WorkBC Centre, Nanaimo – “Port Connect has proven to be a valuable forum for job seekers to meet key employers in the marine industry. Networking at events such as Port Connect is an important factor in building connections leading to employment.

Bill Jahelka, Regional Manager – Western Canada Marine Response Corporation states: “WCMRC is proud to host this year’s Port Connect with Port of Nanaimo stakeholders and partners. Port Connect provided an opportunity for us to meet an ideal candidate in 2018, currently employed today as a valuable member of our team. We support this event and look forward to meeting those interested in our exciting marine-based industry.”

Port Connect is different from traditional “Hiring Fairs”. Rather than focusing solely on immediate employment and on-the-spot interviews, we are emphasizing meaningful connections for long-term industry relationships. Port Connect provides attendees and exhibitors the opportunity to make valuable professional contacts, resulting in an influx of qualified and motivated individuals entering the regional Marine Sector.
