September 16, 2021 — U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo has announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $5.1 million grant to the Oxnard Harbor District, Port Hueneme, California, for infrastructure improvements needed to maximize utilization of the facility. This EDA project, to be matched with $1.3 million in local funds, is expected to create 113 jobs and retain 417 jobs.

“President Biden believes in the importance of strengthening America’s blue economy,” said Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo. “This EDA investment will create good-paying jobs while enhancing the nation’s maritime infrastructure.”

“The Economic Development Administration is pleased to support the Oxnard Harbor District as it seeks to grow the region’s economic competitiveness,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development Alejandra Y. Castillo. “This project will fund the installation of new protection, fender, and mooring systems, as well as the completion of multiple infrastructure enhancements and repairs.”

“California’s economy works best when we are all thriving together,” said Governor Gavin Newsom. “This grant will create and retain essential jobs at the Oxnard Harbor District’s Port of Hueneme – all while improving its infrastructure and increasing economic output.”
