May 27, 2021 — Trans Mountain is committed to providing updates on marine commitments, conditions and Indigenous participation. Released on a semi-annual basis, our Marine Progress Report provides a progress update on marine activities and key Marine Commitments and Conditions as the Project approaches in-service.

As described in Trans Mountain’s Condition 91: Plan for Marine Spill Prevention and Response Commitments, Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) will deliver an enhanced response regime to meet requirements of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) Condition 133. WCMRC is on track to implement these enhancements that will double their existing response capacity and significantly reduce response time.

Highlights of the Spring 2021 report include:

  • New Vessels – 40 of the 44 new vessels have either been delivered (12), procured (6) or are in the process of being built (22)
  • New Hires – WCMRC have hired for 85 new positions with 50 positions still to be hired
  • New Response Bases – Construction of 5 out of 6 new response bases is underway

For the next reporting period, key engagement topics will include marine mammal protection, enhanced tug escort and support for safe traditional use of marine waterways.
