October 7, 2022 — Scappoose Bay Marina is one of the top tourist destinations in Columbia County, often seeing over 2,000 visitors on a summer weekend. To create a better experience for both motorized and non-motorized boaters at the marina, the Port is planning a major renovation.

Planned improvements include replacing the boat ramp and creating a new kayak unloading and staging area away from the primary boat launch.

The installation of additional low profile kayak dock fingers and a kayak beach launch will increase
access and ease congestion for kayakers and other paddlecraft users. Plans also include widening
sidewalks, installing a wider pier and gangway, replacing the main dock with a new concrete dock
and improving ADA access.

In 2021, the Oregon State Marine Board approved a grant of $175,000, matched by the Port, for a total of $350,000 to finance project design, engineering and permitting.

Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2024 and will cost approximately $4 million. The Port will apply for additional grant funds to help pay for the construction once the permitting process is complete.
