"Strategic Master Planning for Ports"

Seattle/Tacoma International Airport
Seattle, Washington USA

Please join us for APP's Fall Fly-in Fly-out Seminar: "Strategic Master Planning for Ports" on Friday, November 5th at the conference center conveniently located inside Sea-Tac International Airport.

By attending this Seminar, you will learn from experts about steps your port can take to meet the future needs of industry and your community.  Port officials will describe successful strategic master planning work they have completed.  Private sector leaders will share their success stories of how ports of all sizes can forecast future cargoes, plan for change, prioritize infrastructure investments, and accommodate future growth.  Don't miss this timely event!

This Seminar begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 3:00 p.m., so you can easily fly in and out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport the same day.  A continental breakfast (available at 8:45 a.m.) and lunch are included.  You'll also have opportunities that day to network with your port colleagues from throughout the Pacific.

Seminar registration rates are just $150 for APP members and $250 for non-members.

APP PEOPLE: BELLINGHAM NAMES NEW DIRECTOR

Port of Bellingham, Washington USA Commissioners Jim Jorgensen, Michael McAuley, and Scott Walker recently appointed Charlie Sheldon as the port's new executive director.  Sheldon replaces Jim Darling, who announced his resignation in 2009 to work as a vice president and principal for a Northwest consulting firm.

Prior to this new position, Sheldon had been with the Port of Seattle since 1990, working in a number of positions including the Executive Team's Special Projects Manager, Managing Director of the Seaport Division, and Director of the Capital Improvement Program in the Aviation Division.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts at Yale University and a Master's of Science at the University of Massachusetts.

Congratulations to both Charlie and the Port of Bellingham!

PORT OF LONGVIEW ADDS INDUSTRIAL PROPERTY

The Port of Longview, Washington USA seized the opportunity for future development by purchasing 306 acres of undeveloped property near the Port's existing facility on the Columbia River.  The acquisition nearly doubles the Port's industrial property, which was near capacity without remaining riverfront property available for development.

"The current zoning and location of the property adjacent to the Columbia River shipping channel make this property ideal for future marine industrial development," said Port of Longview Executive Director Ken O'Hollaren.  The channel will soon be able to load ships to depths of 43 feet when the long-awaited Columbia River channel deepening project is completed this year.

"The Commission has been well aware that we lack industrial property for expansion and have made this issue a key placeholder in our new master plan," said Commission Chairman Bob Bagaason on behalf of fellow Commissioners Dan Buell and Darold Dietz.  "With this purchase we are ensuring that we will have the space to grow and generate benefits for our community for years to come."
