An all-star line-up of informative speakers at APP's 97th Annual Conference last month hosted by the Port of Umatilla, Oregon USA at the amazing Skamania Lodge providing briefings for attendees about key port industry issues, projects, and trends.

And we went Down the Columbia: touring Bonneville Dam & Locks (commercial navigation, hydropower production, irrigation, fish protection, and recreation all in one!), visiting Multnomah Falls, and getting up-close tours of the Port of Vancouver, Washington and the Port of Portland, Oregon aboard the historic Sternwheeler Rose!

| APP BOARD ELECTS PRESIDENT MARIO CORDERO & 2010-11 APP EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE | During
the 97th Annual Conference last month, the APP Board of Directors
unanimously elected Mario Cordero as APP's new President
along with the 2010-11 APP Executive Committee.
President Mario Cordero
was first appointed to the Port of Long Beach Commission in 2003
and has spearheaded the development of the pioneering Green Port
Policy, which has led to environmental initiatives like the Clean
Trucks Program, the Vessel Low-Sulfur Fuel Program, and the Technology
Advancement Program. Cordero has more than two
decades experience as a workers' compensation defense
attorney. He is a member of the Federal Bar Association's Central
District and the Long Beach Bar Association and is former chairman of
the Workers Compensation committees for both the Long Beach Bar and the
Los Angeles Mexican-American Bar Association. The Mexican-American Bar
Association named him Attorney of the Year in 2007 and he received an
environmental award the same year from the League of California Cities.
Cordero has also served as a political
science instructor at Long Beach City College and has sat on
the City of Long Beach Community Development Commission for the past
decade. He served as vice-chair of the Long Beach Ethics Review
Task Force that developed a Code of Ethics for public
officials. Cordero earned a law degree from the University of
Santa Clara and a bachelor of science degree in political science from
California State University, Long Beach.

| APP PEOPLE: NEW REDWOOD CITY COMMISSIONER | The Redwood City Council recently appointed Tom Cronin,
a former planning commissioner and current executive director of
the Police Athletic League (PAL), to a four-year term on the Redwood City Port Commission. Cronin
joined the PAL after three years as operations director for The Riekes
Center for Human Enhancement in Menlo Park. Prior to that, he
held non-profit consulting and management positions at Sequoia Hospital
Foundation, Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center, Committee for Green
Foothills, and Foundation for Global Community. Prior to his work
in the non-profit sector he had a 20-year career at Hewlett
Packard. He was on the Redwood City Planning Commission from
2003-2009. Cronin earned a degree in business administration
from the University of Minnesota. Cronin joins
Redwood City Port Commissioners Dick Claire, Dick Dodge, Ralph
Garcia, and Lorriana Kastrop. Larry Aikins recently left the
Port Commission after 15 years of dedicated service.

| PORT OF LONG BEACH RECEIVES AAPA AWARD | The Port of Long Beach,
California USA recently was recently awarded the prestigious 8th
annual AAPA Facilities Engineering Award. The Port is being
recognized for the $73-million environmental cleanup of a 123-acre
Port-owned property known as Pier A West, which had been severely
impacted by decades of oil production and use as a permitted disposal
area for oil field-related waste before the site was acquired by the
Port. Congratulations, Port of Long Beach!
